Our faith is central to who we are and what we do at St. Pius X Catholic School. We strive to help our students understand that their faith is not just something that kicks in when they attend Mass on Sunday, but it is an everyday, living, breathing part of their existence. We want our kids to know that their lives are a gift from God, and we show our gratitude to God by working to live lives that fulfill his plans for us.
We attend Mass weekly as a school. During our school Masses our students are the altar servers, the lectors (readers), and the choir! Our older students act as Big Buddies to our younger students, helping them to pay attention and behave during Mass.
We also live our faith through daily morning and afternoon prayer as a school, prayer in individual classrooms, and celebrations around our liturgical calendar. Each year, we have a Festival of Saints for All Saints Day, we have special daily Advent prayers that includes lighting classroom Advent wreaths. We do the Stations of the Cross every Friday during Lent, and we honor Mary as our Mother on her special feast days.
Our 8th graders also attend a yearly trip to the JPII Outdoor Lab, which is a three-day program that combines faith and science, while working on leadership skills. All of our middle school students also attend a yearly one-day retreat put on by a team from NET Ministries. We also strive to include our faith in the day-to-day lessons we teach in all of our subject areas, as we look at God’s influence in all parts of our lives.
We also prepare students for the sacraments of First Reconciliation, First Holy Communion and Confirmation in school, so families do not have to enroll their children in a separate religious education program to prepare them for the sacraments.
